Week 2

Hello Families!

Congratulations! We made it through the first week! I feel like we had a wonderful first week of school, and I am hoping you and your kiddos feel the same. This week we spent lots of time going over procedures and practicing everything from swift transitions to walking in quiet, straight lines.

Lessons

Grammar/Writing: We will have a test on sentences and nouns on Tuesday. Students will begin learning how to classify and diagram sentences.

History: Students will learn how to read physical maps and we will have a unit test on Wednesday. All tests and quizzes in History are open notes, so students are permitted to use their notebooks. We will begin a new unit on Rome.

Literature: We will continue reading The Princess and the Goblin.

Math: On Monday we will have a test over the first unit- Place Value and Ordering. We will move into a short unit, Rounding, and will test over that material on Friday.

Poetry: Students will continue to memorize the poem "Humanity" by Elma Stuckey. We will have recitations during week 3.

Greek and Latin Roots: This week, we will have a review check-up on the first four roots. We will learn 4 new roots.  I have added a roots page on this blog, so you will be able to utilize that to help your student study if you wish.

Science: There will be a short chemistry quiz Monday, followed by an experiment exploring the properties of matter. Students will learn about elements and the Periodic Table.

Spalding: We will spend time reviewing how to write in cursive. Students will learn 10 words this week, and will test on these 10 words on Friday.

Important Dates
  • Monday: Place Value Test; Chemistry quiz
  • Tuesday: Sentence and Nouns Test
  • Thursday: Chemistry quiz
  • Friday: Spalding Test
